Tony Gwynn’s Final Game/Rickey Henderson 3000 Hit Ticket (SGA 10/7/01)

Tony Gwynn Last Game Ticket

This item here is kind of a double whammy. Not only were these jumbo sized “tickets” handed out to commemorate Tony Gwynn’s final game ever but the actual game ticket itself has even extra meaning. It was the game in which 2009 Hall of Fame inductee Rickey Henderson hit a lead off double, off of Colorado’s John Thompson, to collect his 3,000th hit. He would go on to score on a single by Phil Nevin and would sit out the rest of the game. The Tony Gwynn jumbo ticket lists his accomplishments on the front and is numbered Section 19, Row 19, Seat 19. On the backside are his career stats. Tony Gwynn pinch hit in the 9th inning and grounded out to short in his only at bat of the day. The Padres lost 14-5.
